Azucena Melchor (dancer)
Azucena Melchor began dancing at age 5 at the Lawrence Arts Center in Lawrence, Kansas, and began her folklórico training at age 7 in Cholula, Puebla, MX, continuing in Lawrence under the direction of LaShane Starr and Danny Tetuán. At the Arts Center, Azucena performed lead roles in classical repertoire including Giselle and Cinderella and original contemporary works under the direction of Cynthia Crews. After earning her Bachelor of Arts in Social and Cultural Analysis from New York University in 2023, Azucena has performed folklórico at venues like Carnegie Hall’s Perelman Stage and Los Ángeles’s Olvera Street as a member of Grupo Folklórico del Sol and the Asociación Nacional de Grupos Folklóricos. She is thrilled to be embarking on her first season with Ballet Nepantla.
