maricarmen betancourt (dancer)

Maricarmen Betancourt is a folklorico dancer from Los Angeles, California. She began dancing at age 10 with a traditional Mexican Folklorico group called Sabor de México. While with Sabor de México, Maricarmen performed in various cities in Mexico, competed throughout Southern California, and also at Dance Grand Prix Italy. In addition, Maricarmen had the opportunity to attend master classes with Amalia Viviana Basanta Hernandez, artistic director of Ballet Folklorico de México. At 16 she began her training in stylized folklorico with Grandeza Mexicana Academy, and soon after became a performing member of Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet Company under the artistic direction of José Vences. In 2016, Maricarmen moved to NYC where she attended Hunter College as a Spanish Major with a concentration of Spanish/English translation and interpretation, and a French minor. She joined Ballet Nepantla in 2017 as a founding member.
